PM GatiShakti Initiative: Two Years of Transformation in India's Infrastructure Landscape

In the last two years, the National Project GatiShakti (NPG) has been a beacon of progress and innovation. With 56 meetings held and 112 projects evaluated, valued at over Rs. 11 lakh Crores (USD 132.98 Billion), this initiative has truly reshaped India's infrastructure landscape.

Since the launch of PM GatiShakti, 39 Ministries of the Government of India, alongside all 36 States/UTs, have come on board. They've established robust institutional frameworks, custom GIS-based portals, and decision-making tools, enabling them to plan and implement projects with unprecedented precision. The data-driven National Master Plan is at the heart of this transformation.

One of the most notable achievements is the Area Development Approach (ADA), recommending over 200 projects worth Rs. 5,496 Crores to enhance logistics infrastructure. An MoU between the Logistics Division and Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya has also been signed to provide logistics skill development.

Geospatial and cutting-edge technologies have been seamlessly integrated into the PM Gati Shakti Master Plan, revolutionising India's connectivity landscape. The numbers speak volumes, with plans for over 8890 Kms of roads, 27000 Kms of rail, and 920 Kms of pipelines, across various ministries.

In the social sector, 22 ministries have joined the PMGS, with 156 critical infrastructure gap projects enhancing connectivity for the first and last mile. Over 10 lakh Anganwadi Centres have been mapped, disaster management plans have been developed, and new buildings for Anganwadis identified.

The future looks promising, with a massive Rs. 75,000 Crores earmarked for 100 critical transport infrastructure projects in the 2023-24 Union Budget. These projects aim to create holistic, area-based development by saturating regions with multimodal connectivity and promoting economic and social growth.

The 'Compendium of PM GatiShakti' showcases inspiring success stories of PM GatiShakti usage by both central ministries and states/UTs. The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, for instance, has mapped over 6.19 Lakh km of roads and 4,784 bridges under the NMP, a testament to the initiative's impact.

In just two years, PM GatiShakti has transformed the way India plans and executes infrastructure projects, pushing the boundaries of what's possible and unlocking vast potential for economic and social development.
