NCM requests Haryana CM to advise concerned authorities to print 'Form for Registration as a Voter’ in Haryana Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee in Gurmukhi

The National Commission for Minorities formed under the NCM Act, 1992, has been inter-alia, entrusted with the responsibility to look into specific complaints regarding deprivation of rights and safeguards of Minorities and take up such matters with the appropriate authorities.

The Commission received a complaint that the ‘Form for Registration as a Voter’ in Haryana Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee Election has been printed in Devnagri script i.e. Hindi language and not in Punjabi Gurmukhi, which is against the sentiments of Sikh community. The Sikh Scriptures and Sri Guru Granth Sahib are written in Gurmukhi script, therefore, Punjabi in Gurmukhi script holds a special place in Sikhism.

In order to avoid any unnecessary controversy, Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Hon’ble Chairman, NCM has written to Hon’ble Chief Minister of Haryana on 4.9.2023 requesting to advise the concerned authorities to print the Form in Punjabi ie. in Gurmukhi script and distribute it to the likely voters.
