The National Commission for Minorities formed under the NCM Act, 1992 has been inter alia entrusted with the responsibility to look into the complaints regarding the deprivation of rights and safeguards of the minorities.

The Commission has taken cognizance of the news reports and telephonic call by Sikh living in Kashmir regarding killing of Gurmeet Singh, an engineer by profession, who had gone missing on 25.8.2023 and whose dead body was found at Lower Jhelum Hydel Project, Gantamulla in Baramulla, Jammu & Kashmir.

As per the information recieved, the family of the victim and Sikh community is not satisfied with the action taken by the local police after the kidnapping of Gurmeet Singh. Hence,  they demand investigation of this case by the Senior Officer or the Special Investigation Team.
