NCM Chief holds meeting with Delegation from United Christian Forum

Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Hon’ble Chairman, National Commission for Minorities held a meeting on 21.9.2023 on a grievance addressed by A.C. Michael, President of Federation of Catholic Associations of Archdiocese of Delhi & National Coordinator, United Christian Forum regarding various issues related to Christian minority community. The delegation led by Michael included Michael Williams, Siju Thomas, John Dayal and Tehmina Arora.

The meeting was attended by Member, NCM Rinchen Lhamo, Syed Shahezadi and other senior officials. 

The delegation discussed their issues regarding falsely fabricated charges of conversion against Christians, attacks on Christian institutions, shutting down of churches,  lack of data on communal attacks against Christians, vandalization of churches in Manipur and more.

In his remarks, Chairman, NCM said, "Minorities are citizens of India and have all the rights that are available to the majority community, including the right to practice our religion. We have to be vigilant of any kind of discrimination against us. The National Commission for Minorities has been established for the purpose of safeguarding the rights of minorities. We would like to assure the United Christian Forum that we will support you and resolve your issues on a priority basis. The representation submitted by you will be properly enquired."

The Commission recommended the United Christian Forum Delegation to submit their cases of grievances to NCM for immediate redressal. The Commission assured of issuance of advisory and follow up action by seeking reports from the concerned authorities. It was also decided that the Commission will hold meetings with Christian and all other minority communities on a monthly basis.
