Lifelong learning is the mantra of success: Prof. Yogesh Singh
An international conference on “Sustainable
Development: A Road Towards Lifelong Learning” is being organized by the
Department of Continuing Education and Extension, University of Delhi in
collaboration with Janaki Devi Memorial College and Indian Adult Education Association
from 18 to 20
January. The formal inauguration of the conference took place on January 18 in
the conference hall of the university. On this occasion, DU Vice Chancellor,
Prof. Yogesh Singh was present as the chief guest. In his
inaugural address, the Vice Chancellor said that lifelong learning is a mantra
for success. This is not a goal but a well-organized journey.
The Vice Chancellor, during his inaugural address,
said that merely saying VasudhaivaKutumbakam will not suffice, for this we will
have to set examples. The Government of India under the leadership of our Prime
Minister has resolved to have Viksit Bharat by 2047. But
this cannot be achieved by compromising the goals of sustainable development.
That is why such conferences are important. Prof. Yogesh Singh considered
taking out 100% water from some rivers like Yamuna into canals as
a major cause of water pollution and said that the journey from “river water to
bottle water” is very painful. He said that the more we talk about sustainable
development, the more things are wrong in its implementation. We have polluted
the things which nature has given us for free. That's why we need right
education. Bhartiya Gyan Paramparacan help us in this.
Expressing concern over the changing technology and
the accompanying changing theories, the Vice Chancellor said that in the last
century work was done on repair of products; Then the quality of the product
improved, but instead of repair, work started on replacement. Such theories may
be correct for some countries according to their system, but may not be correct
for a country like India with a population of 140
crores. On this occasion, the Abstract Book of the conference was also released
by the Vice Chancellor and prizes were also distributed to the winners of the
poster making competition organized on the theme “Developed India @2047: Voice
of Youth”. On this occasion, Director of South Campus, Prof. Shri Prakash Singh
was also present.
At the
beginning of the inauguration ceremony, HOD of DCEE Prof. Rajesh Kumar welcomed
the guests and all the participants. At the inaugural ceremony, Principal Swati
Pal from Janki Devi Memorial College expressed her delight to co-host this
international conference, ‘Sustainable Development: A Road Towards Lifelong
Learning.’ Highlighting the importance of organising such a conclave, she said,
“A life of dignity is intrinsically intertwined to a sustainable future. But
where does the responsibility lie? Sustainable development needs to become a
personal, everyday choice. Redefining our relationship with the planet and the
ecosystem is critical.”At the end of the program, vote of thanks was presented by
Dr. Kumar Ashutosh, Associate Professor, DCEE
