Historic Women’s Reservation Bill passed by the Lok Sabha

On Wednesday, the Lok Sabha approved a crucial bill concerning women's reservations in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies. This historic decision aims to promote gender equality and empowerment.

Participating in a debate on the bill in Lok Sabha, the union Home Minister Amit Shah said that immediately after the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the Census and delimitation of seats in the legislatures will be carried out, and the bill will then be implemented without any delay.

Under this bill, 33% of seats in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies will be reserved exclusively for women. This means that more women will have opportunities to take part in various government roles as lawmakers.

The move is seen as a positive step towards addressing gender disparities in the Union and State legislatures and encouraging women's active participation in public service. It reflects the government's commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable society.

This decision has been widely welcomed as a progressive move, and it is expected to have a lasting impact on the lives of women across the country. It sends a clear message that India is committed to breaking down barriers and providing equal opportunities for all citizens, regardless of their gender.
