DU celebrated “Ek Tarikh Ek Ghanta Ek Sath” campaign in the presence of Dharmendra Pradhan

The University of Delhi along with its colleges, celebrated 9 years of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission by participating in “Ek Tarikh Ek Ghanta Ek Sath” a nationwide campaign in the gracious presence of Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India by carrying out a cleanliness drive at two sites namely G C Narang Marg and Patel Chest of the North Campus on 1 Oct 2023 at 10:00 am.

The cleanliness drive was in response to the clarion call made by Prime Minister Modi to all citizens of the country to participate in cleaning public spaces like slums, parks, lakes; on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti.

The Shramdaan for Swachhata was led by the Hon’ble Minister who was joined by 25 senior officials from the Ministry of Education including Shri Sanjay Murthy, Secretary, Higher Education along with Prof Balram Pani, Acting Vice Chancellor and Dean of Colleges, University of Delhi, Prof Sri Prakash Singh, Director South Campus, Dr Vikas Gupta, Registrar, Prof Rajni Abbi, Proctor, Prof Bipin Tiwary, Nodal Officer of the Programme, Principals of the colleges, Prof A K Bhagi, President, Delhi University Teachers Association and his team of DUTA office bearers, Mr Tushar Dedha, President, Delhi University Students Union and his team of DUSU officer bearers, teachers, students from various colleges, and the administrative staff of the University. Along with the University community, the locals from the University area also joined the drive in good numbers.

While cleaning the sites and leading by example, the Minister motivated the students and teachers to maintain the drive of cleanliness, initiated by our PM, in the true spirit of Swachhata Hi Seva by continuing this tradition beyond the Swachhata Pakhwada.

The Minister also interacted with the doctors at the Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute and took promise from them to be the vanguards of cleanliness in India.

The drive which lasted one hour resulted in thorough cleaning of both the sites. It also engendered discussion and mindfulness amongst the University community on their role as responsible citizens to keep public spaces clean.
