BRICS International Competition Conference concludes in New Delhi with prominent participants and insights

The 8th BRICS International Competition Conference concluded today with a diverse array of global competition authorities, industry experts, and thought leaders participating in fruitful discussions on key competition-related topics.

Day 3 of the conference featured a Plenary Session on "Promoting Soft Law Tools to Create a Pro-competitive Environment in the Markets." The session was moderated by Lesya Davydova, Head of the Department for International Economic Cooperation of the FAS Russia, and included esteemed speakers such as Anil Agrawal from CCI, India, Ricardo Medeiros de Castro from CADE, Brazil, Andrey Tsyganov, Deputy Head of the FAS Russia, Zhou Zhigao, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Competition Policy Coordination at SAMR, China, Hardin Ratshisusu, Deputy Commissioner of CCSA, South Africa, and Harpreet Kaur, Vice Chancellor of NLU Jodhpur.

Following this, two Breakout Sessions were held:

BOS 3 discussed the "Role of Market Studies in Emerging Competition Issues" with Hariprasad Govinda, Principal Economist in the Economic Research Bureau of CCSA, South Africa, as the moderator, and featured speakers such as Payal Malik from CCI, India, and Ricardo Medeiros de Castro from CADE, Brazil.

BOS 4 focused on "Challenges in Merger Control: International Perspective," moderated by Andrey Tsyganov, Deputy Head of FAS, Russia, and included speakers such as Bidyadhar Majhi from CCI, India, and Victor Oliveira Fernandes, Commissioner of CADE, Brazil, among others.

The conference also saw high-profile participation from notable individuals, including Elena Zaeva, Head of the Department for Regulation of Telecommunication and Information Technology of FAS, Russia, Wang Jiheng, Director of the Second Department of Anti-Monopoly Law Enforcement at SAMR, China, Teresa Moreira, Head of the Competition and Consumer Policies Branch at UNCTAD, and Simrit Kaur, Principal at Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi.

Other notable attendees included German Zakharov, Advocate at JSC ALRUD, NGA from Russia, Xu Lefu, Director-General of the Second Department of Anti-Monopoly Law Enforcement at SAMR China, and legal experts such as Samir R. Gandhi and Nisha Kaur Uberoi.

The conference also featured a Luncheon Meeting of BRICS Competition Authorities and the signing of a Joint Statement.

The Closing Ceremony included addresses by the Heads of BRICS Competition Authorities, such as Ravneet Kaur from CCI, Victor Olivera Fernandes from CADE Brazil, Maxim Shaskolsky from FAS Russia, Gan Lin, Vice Minister of SAMR, and Doris Tshepe from CCSA South Africa.

The event concluded with the Takeover Ceremony for the 9th BRICS International Competition Conference in 2025, to be hosted by CCSA, South Africa.
