Cultural program organized by Sri Aurobindo College on the occasion of G20

Sri Aurobindo College in collaboration with The Culture Council, University of Delhi organised an Academic cum Cultural event “Strengthening Ties: India-China Relationship” on 29th September 2023 in the college premises.

Held in the wake of India's G20 presidency under the theme 'VasudaivaKutumbkam', the event aimed to promote cordial constructive and cooperative relations between the two neighbouring nations by showcasing the culinary and cultural capital through an Indo-Chinese food festival and cultural performances displaying the rich heritage of the two nations.

Chief Guest of the event Mr. Anoop Lather, Chairperson of the Steering Committee, Culture Council, University of Delhi described India-China relationship as an ‘integrated circuit’ that would need a meeting of hearts, minds and souls.He also applauded the efforts of the organizing committee headed by Nodal Officer Dr. Rashmi Mathur and Faculty Coordinator Dr. Asha Kiran Gupta for passionately embodying the theme of the event in every aspect from food to clothes.

Guest of Honour, Prof.Niranjan Kumar, DeanPlanning, University of Delhi remarked that we can choose our friends but we cannot choose our neighbours. In this context, he emphasized the use of soft power such as art and culture to improve bilateral relations between the two countries.

Prof. Ravinder Kumar, DeanCulture Council, University of Delhi appreciated the Indian spirit of embracing even one's enemies and learning the best from them. He also drew attention to the significance of the power of words in diplomatic relationships. Keynote speaker of the event Prof. Chintamani Mahapatra, Former Pro-Vice Chancellor, Jawaharlal Lal Nehru University highlighted the need to strengthen ties with China on account of it being the most powerful military nation in Indo-Pacific region, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and one of the most technologically advanced nations in the world.

The event concluded with a vibrant array of music and dance performances by the exceptionally talented students from different cultural societies of the college.

The event commenced with a solemn lamplighting ceremony followed by the mellifluous confluence of Saraswati Vandana and Buddhist chants. Prof. Vipin Kumar Aggarwal, Principal of the College welcomed all the dignitaries and iterated that if the two most populated countries of the world come together, it will be a force to reckon with.
