The Vice President today voiced his strong disapproval of the misuse of sovereign platforms for misinformed comments on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). He clarified that CAA is designed to provide relief to those facing religious persecution in neighbouring countries, ensuring that it does not strip anyone of their citizenship, despite prevailing misconceptions.

During his address as the chief guest at the 2nd edition of the American Bar Association Spring Conference in Delhi, he celebrated India's rich history of offering sanctuary to various religious groups. He criticized attempts by some to educate India on its realities without understanding the actual situation on the ground.

Highlighting India's deep-rooted democratic traditions, from the parliament to the grassroots level of panchayats, he responded to criticisms made by individuals from sovereign platforms regarding Indian democratic institutions. He firmly stated, "We are not a nation to receive instructions from others."

He also addressed comments made by some international voices on democracy, urging the youth to counter such narratives through social media and other platforms. He emphasized the importance of educating those who, out of ignorance, attempt to instruct India on democracy.

Reflecting on India's economic progress from being among the 'fragile five' to joining the 'big five', he expressed disappointment with those who have previously held power in India yet chose to spread negativity about the country's prospects.

The event was also attended by notable figures including R. Venkataramani, Attorney General of India, Tushar Mehta, Solicitor General of India, Dr. Lalit Bhasin, President of the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF), Pratibha Jain, Chair of the India Committee at ABA, among other dignitaries.
