Night curfew back in Delhi NCR from Dec 27On Sunday, the Delhi government announced the re-imposition of the night curfew from 11 pm to 5 am. This is being done in wake of a fresh spike in COVID cases across Delhi NCR that has raised serious concern for the Delhi government. The night curfew will come into place from December 27.

The decision of imposition of curfew came after Delhi reported 290 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday and one death. On Saturday, the national capital reported 249 new cases of coronavirus.

However, one wonders why both Centre and State governments took things so lightly especially when there was a caution from the medical fraternity about the 'third wave' may hit around or after December. Festivals, events, fairs, were held both at the private and government levels including the recently concluded 40th India International Trade Fair (IITF) at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi that witnessed huge footfall daily. COVID protocols were completely violated.

The Delhi government will keep a close watch on the situation for a few days and will take a call on whether to impose Yello Alert that will have more restrictions including closing down down schools, colleges, educational institutions, and coaching institutes. Private offices will be allowed to operate at 50% capacity from 9 am to 5 pm. Not more than 20 people will be allowed at weddings and funerals. Many more restrictions will come into effect if Yellow Alert is sounded.

The big question is are all the New Year extravaganzas scheduled for the December 31st  night across Delhi NCR stands canceled or will be allowed. A fresh advisory is expected soon.
