NHPC Limited Forges Alliance with Norway's Ocean Sun for Floating Solar Energy in India

NHPC Limited to collaborate with Norwegian company for implementation of Floating Solar Energy Technology in India


NHPC Limited, India's foremost hydropower development authority, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Ocean Sun, a Norwegian firm specialising in floating solar technology. This partnership aims to pilot Ocean Sun’s innovative floating solar technology that employs photovoltaic panels mounted on hydro-elastic membranes. Sites suitable for this demonstration will be selected by NHPC, aligning with its ongoing commitment to sustainable development and expanding its renewable energy portfolio, which includes solar, wind, and green hydrogen initiatives.

The MoU was officially signed on 29th April, 2024, through a hybrid ceremony. The signing was conducted by the Executive Director (Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen) of NHPC, V.R. Shrivastava, and the CEO of Ocean Sun, Kristian Tørvold. Notable attendees included May-Elin Stener, the Ambassador of Norway to India; Raj Kumar Chaudhary, Director (Technical) of NHPC; and Rajat Gupta, Executive Director (Strategy Business Development & Consultancy) of NHPC. They joined the ceremony from the Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi, while the Ambassador of India to Norway, Acquino Vimal, participated from Oslo.
