National Commission for Minorities (NCM) organised an Iftar party at its Lodi Road office. The Iftar party was attended by NCM Chairperson Iqbal Singh Lalpura, member NCM Rinchen Lhamo, Syed Shahezadi, Daboo, and Dhanalakshmi along with representatives from Sikh, and Muslim communities. Dr Junnaid Haris, Professor of Islamic Studies, Jamia Milia Islamia University was the guest of the evening.

Explain the significance and importance of Roza during the Ramzan month Dr Junnaid Haris said, "Roza is practiced to show gratitude towards Allah and maintain self-restraint. There is no use in observing Ramzan and keeping Roza unless the person abides by Allah's teachings. Roza means control over the wrongdoings and engaging in selfless activities". "Prophet Mohammad termed  Roza meaningless unless faithful refrain from lies, hurting others, back bitting, etc", added Dr Junnaid. He stressed offering food, and clothes to the poor, and the needy. "Those who can afford should give food to the poor, the hungry" added Prof Haris.

Iqbal Singh Lalpura said, "This is a gesture to show that the NCM respects all the religions. Next time we shall try to organise Iftar on a bigger platform". He also praised the level of penance, as staying empty stomach without a drop of water is not easy". "The advantage of keeping Roza will only reach those who usher in noble work for mankind. All the religions teach good", said Lalpura. Citing the practical side of Roza, the NCM Chairperson said if anybody wants to abstain from verbal altercation or argument can ignore it by saying during Roza talking is not allowed.

"NCM plans to hold an event where we shall honour individuals who have done good work, selfless work towards the society irrespective of the field of work. Even well-known names like Ratan tata who has been working tirelessly for charity and betterment of people said NCM Chairperson. He also requested to suggest names of such deserving candidates.

Syed Shahezadi praised India for its tolerance toward all religions. She said the second largest population of the Muslim community not only stays in Inda but is free to express their views. "Islam doesn't teach hatred but love for all religions. It's the fringe elements that engage in anti-religious activities which all religions condemn", she said.

"Islam has no place for traitors who insult the country that gives them livelihood and suggests the beheading of the traitors. It's a disgrace on people who cheat their motherland, added Shahezadi.

A prayer session was also organised after the Iftar party followed by the dinner.
