Indian Coast Guard Heroically Rescues Stranded Fishing Boat off Karnataka Coast

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) conducted a successful rescue operation off the coast of Karwar, Karnataka, saving the crew of the Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) Rosary after it suffered an engine failure. The incident occurred approximately 215 nautical miles from Karwar on April 16, 2024.

Responding to a distress call made on April 13, ICG Ship Savitribai Phule promptly established communication with the stricken vessel amidst challenging sea conditions. Upon arrival, the ICG team attempted to repair the seized engine. However, the boat remained immobile, necessitating a tow to shore.

In a coordinated effort with Coast Guard District Headquarters (Karnataka) and the Fisheries department, IFB Rosary was safely towed and handed over to IFB Shree Laxmi Narayan, which escorted the vessel to Karwar port. The timely and effective response by the ICG underscores their vital role in ensuring the safety of maritime personnel and vessels in distress.
