Critical Minerals Summit Concludes on a note of Strategic Collaboration and Policy Insights to Advance India’s Critical Mineral Agenda
The Critical Minerals Summit titled 'Enhancing Beneficiation and Processing Capabilities' concluded in New Delhi today, achieving a pivotal milestone towards advancing India's agenda in the critical minerals sector. Organised by the Ministry of Mines in collaboration with the Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, the Council on Energy, Environment and Water, and the Indian Institute of Sustainable Development, the summit emphasized strategic collaboration and insightful policy discussions.
During the second day, a robust dialogue unfolded among stakeholders about policy incentives and the benefits of investing in India. Invest India presented the opportunities in critical mineral processing in India, highlighting both fiscal and non-fiscal incentives available. States like Odisha and Andhra Pradesh showcased their regional incentives, demonstrating their commitment to supporting the industry and fostering necessary infrastructure.
The discussions also focused on adopting a cluster-based approach to enhance synergies across mineral extraction, refining, and end-use, especially in low-carbon technologies. Key points included the necessity for regulatory certainty, effective financing frameworks, and adherence to ESG standards to attract investment. Services facilitated by Invest India and the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha were noted for their role in helping establish local processing and beneficiation capabilities.
Dr Veena Kumari Dermal, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Mines, provided the closing remarks, highlighting the summit's achievements and future directives. She stressed the importance of both domestic and international collaborations to secure critical mineral supply chains, enhance skill development, and promote recycling of these minerals. Dr. Dermal also pointed to India's prowess in processing technologies and recent amendments to offshore mining regulations.
The summit aimed to equip stakeholders with essential knowledge and connections to accelerate domestic production of critical minerals, aligning with India's growth and sustainability goals. It served as a transformative platform for dialogue and collaboration, marking a significant step towards positioning India as a leader in the global critical mineral sector.
